Financial Help to Support You in Continuing Your Pregancy

Our previous post was on financial help to obtain an abortion.  Now, we show some places to go to support the continuation of a pregnancy.  Many organizations can help with immediate crisis financial needs, food and clothing for pregnant women.  While the 211 listings don't seem to have a classification subject heading that exactly spells that out (the closest is "crisis pregnancy hotline" as a searchable term).  However, there's a lot of information and places to go.  None of the following organizations will push or present abortion as a good alternative, so go there if you are pretty certain you want to continue your pregnancy.

Heartbeat International has an international directory of places to go for pregnancy support. Birthright International also has a listing of organizations (which may overlap, but may provide some new places to look). You can also call Birthright toll-free at1.800.550.4900 . The Nuturing Network also has a list of all sorts of organizations that may be useful to a woman in the crisis pregnancy situation, or a woman raising her child alone.

An obvious source of help is the federal WIC (Women, Infant, Children) program, which provides food for low-income pregnant women and children up to the age of five.   Here are toll-free numbers in your state to get more information and apply.

Lifecall has a particularly useful list--one that will accept pregnant women who have substance abuse problems. They also link to a national listing of homeless shelters.

If you live in southeast Michigan, visit the incomparable Julie's List of agencies and sources of help for crisis pregnancies.
